Kitty Giant: Woman’s Shock as Pet Cat’s Size Surprises the Internet

Discovering a Domestic Behemoth

A cat mum was stunned when her cute kitten failed to stop growing, leaving people worried that the feline was a dangerous beast. Photographer Chastity had no clue her cat Kusa would grow so massive it could barely fit in her arms. The professional pet parent often posts pics and videos of her furry friends on social media. In a viral Instagram clip, the influencer can be seen holding her white and orange-haired long boy who barely fits in the frame at just nine months old.

Mistaken Identity

While some users mistake Kusa for a wild animal, such as a bobcat, the giant cat couldn’t be further from danger, as he just lay in her arms peacefully while she showcased him. “We had no idea how big our kitten was about to get…”, Chastity wrote on her post, subsequently revealing that Kusa is actually a Maine coon, known as the largest domestic cat breed. Unlike most breeds, which stop growing at about 12 months, Maine coons usually don’t fully grow until they are between four and five years of age.

Online Fandom and Skepticism

Followers were obsessed with the massive pet, and said that Kusa must “guard the house.” Others could not even believe that it was a domestic breed and questioned whether or not Chastity could legally own the pet. One person joked, “Ma’am, that’s a lion.” In an Instagram post, Chastity shared a shocking video that showed Kusa indeed started as a normal little kitten. The Maine coon started out as a mewing white babe that could fit inside a teacup, but just months later, he hit a huge growth spurt.

Kusa’s Growing Pains

By the time he was five months old, Kusa was noticeably larger than Chastity’s other domestic cat. “And to think, cats aren’t fully grown till 2 years of age,” one amazed follower wrote on the post with over 4 million likes. Another Instagram user was shocked by the massive appearance and even inquired if the cat was more on the “feral side.” However, loads of Maine coon owners joined the conversation with incredible stories of their sweet and docile pets, who were “the golden retrievers of the cat world.”

Adjusting to a Giant Pet’s Needs

The average Maine coon weighs from 10 to 18 pounds and has a massive fluffy body, but Kusa is already far above that, according to the owner. “We need an extra-large litter box,” she told the Daily Star. “Maine coons are very playful, so they need a lot of enrichment. I think we will need to upsize, we have a cat wall, and I’m worried it’s going to come off the wall when he’s bigger.” With his incredible size, many people wondered whether or not he had ever hurt any of Chastity’s other pets, but she assured that he’s the tamest among them. “We have three other cats, and Kusa is at the bottom of the cat hierarchy, he’s just too nice,” she added.

Raising the Bar: Another Massive Maine Coon

A fellow Maine coon owner said she owns the world’s biggest cat, as she claims he’s as tall as her four-year-old daughter and can even open doors himself. Yuli Minina took to Instagram to showcase her Maine Coon, Kefir, standing on his back legs and letting himself into the garden. Viewers were astounded as Kefir opened a door, trotted around the patio, and lounged in true human style. His playful antics continue as he cheekily rolls in the vegetable patch and perches on a branch, making him seem more like a lion than a cat. Kefir’s dedicated TikTok page features clips of his extraordinary growth and has captured hearts across the platform.
